"What a challenge!" Remembers
Roderick. "I Co-Produced and D.P.'d this one. The Director had come up with a
concept centered on the historical and artistic flavor of the old mining
town - Bisbee, Arizona . . . Great, 20 minutes from my
back door!"
but . . .
"Suddenly, two days prior to the shoot, the label says they no longer want
that old Western feel, but instead wanted to infuse the band with a
contemporary, even Hi-Tech look!" Roderick and Production Coordinator
Les Siemens had their work cut out for them.
|
|
"The production was already
quite setup in Bisbee, so we scrambled to bring in contemporary set
dressing, Armani suits and even a Hummer to give them the look they
wanted!".
"Then, one day prior to the shoot, Bisbee was hit with the biggest blizzard
they'd seen in years!"
As often happens, the least planned shots often turn into the nicest ones.

The performance was planned to take place on an overlook in the
mountains with the San Pedro valley in the background. The hectic schedule
was compounded by a blizzard the day before the shoot.
"It was a very packed day, and we were running short of sunlight to get
our performance footage. Benny (the director) was thinking of changing his
concept to an interior performance but I said 'Give me twenty minutes to light
the location before the sun goes away - WE RAN! We set up a row of HMI Pars
(6k, 4k, 2.5k and 2 x 1.2k's) and bounced it back with checkerboards. We
caught it JUST as that great Arizona Sunset sky was glowing, and for
everytake as the sky darkened we would throw wire in front of the lights to
balance it out. It came out GREAT!" |
