Another 'Darren Bousman' project, this was a Dance Demo piece for choreographer Rosie Sharkey.

"Darren wanted to show off the abandoned 'industrial-office' location with a wider than usual frame." Recalls D.P. Roderick E. Stevens.
 

"Though I'm a big fan of Anamorphic, I knew we were finishing on video and the simplicity and speed of spherical lenses would be a better solution so we simply cropped for Super35."

To achieve the sickly, stale feel Darren wanted, Roderick & crew (Cass Rasmussen & John Matysiak) employed a fair amount of green gels and hard sources, including Par cans with NSPs.

A few puddles of water, a bit of smoke and a hard toplight and voila! Roderick opted for no filters.

"We wanted to hide and reveal very specific images and parts of images so I used lighting to keep certain things in the dark and I didn't want the items we wanted to see to be soft or diffused at all so I kept the lenses clean."

 


Additionally, speed ramps helped add to the edginess of the spot.  Another small step for CVMP and Utopian Pictures - another giant leap for under-staffed, under-equipped production companies the world over!
